INFINITY

1. What is the advantage of the INFINITY® system over line voltage and lower DC voltage?

The INFINITY® system relocates the driver to a more easily accessible location when compared to line voltage. At the same time it does not have the limitations of a lower DC voltage circuit, because we can connect up to 1000ft or 300m of lighting products on a single circuit.

2. What input voltages are needed for the INFINITY® system?

Although 220V-240V is preferred, our power supplies can also accept 277V or 120V. For large scale installations, sometimes we require 380V-480V input. Please contact support@gvalighting.com if you have questions regarding input voltage.

UNIBODY

1. What is the largest difference between the UNIBODY and conventional fixture body design?

An STR9 with UNIBODY design does not have any end caps. In conventional fixture design, there is the main fixture body, the end caps, and the lens. When these three parts meet, there is a triple junction point, which is typically sealed with some chemical adhesive. This triple junction is very susceptible to water permeation. The GVA UNIBODY design does not have a triple junction point at all, and is much superior in water resistance when compared to similar fixtures in the market.

COLOR-AMP™

1. What is COLOR-AMP™

COLOR-AMP™ is a proprietary technology that unlocks the unused power of the color changing fixture and utilizes it to the maximum in order to deliver the maximum possible light output that the fixture is capable of. For more detailed explanation, please go to COLOR-AMP™ technology page.

2. Is COLOR-AMP™ just a temporary boost in light output?

Absolutely not, COLOR-AMP™ is a permanent and optimized way to drive LEDs.

3. Is COLOR-AMP™ safe? Does it shorten the life of the LEDs?

COLOR-AMP™ is completely safe. Since we are not boosting or over-driving the LEDs, just channeling their power to the right place and staying within LED manufacturer’s limits, we can guarantee that they will not fail due to the use of COLOR-AMP™ prematurely.

LED manufacturers test their diodes at the maximum recommended current and then set their expected lifetime in the number of projected hours. Since COLOR-AMPed LEDs are still driven below the maximum current, we are confident that they will perform for at least as long as LED manufacturers are stating.

4. Do I have to pay extra for COLOR-AMP™?

Not at all, COLOR-AMP is currently included free of charge in our STR9® RGBW and FL100 RGBW-IM and will be added to our future, color changing luminares as a standard feature.

5. How do I turn it on?

COLOR-AMP™ is on the moment you turn on the fixture. Since it is an automatic technology, the light output has been scaled and ratios between color combinations have been preserved.

For example, what used to be a 100% in red channel, is now 25%. If you want to compare the light output in any channel, just set your DMX controller to 25% and then 100% in order to see how much more light you are getting with COLOR-AMP™

6. Why do I only get 3x more light output when the power was increased 4x?

In the ideal world, LED’s efficiency would be linear and light output proportional to the power needed to drive them. In the real world however,  LED diodes become less efficient when more current is applied to them.

7. Can I manually adjust the levels of each channel?

Of course. If you have a DMX controller, you can control each channel separately. If you, for example, do not like red at it’s 100%, you can decrease it to a lower value. Same applies to color combinations. If you want to tweak the values of red and blue in your magenta, you can do it as you would with any standard fixture. COLOR-AMPed fixtures are only driven at 100% when you want them to.

8. What is the practical use of COLOR-AMP™?

With COLOR-AMP, you get almost 3x the light output so for majority of projects, you would order 3x less fixtures. This alone saves you money for initial purchase as well as installation.

Another advantage is that you get the power of 3+ monochromatic fixtures in one. Our color changing FL100 RGBW-IM delivers 5200 lumens in White color alone, competing with other manufacturers’ monochromatic models.

GORO Series

1. What application is GORO most commonly used for?

  • shopping malls,
  • grocery stores,
  • institutional buildings,
  • museums,
  • spot-lighting,
  • accent lighting, and more.

Goro is often used typically anywhere where a high quality of light is essential. In addition, the LED heads are adjustable +/- 35°, making it versatile in a recessed, pendent and wall-mount form.

Another strong point is in retail, where merchandise should pop out and appear vibrant via Xicato’s high end LEDs.

2. What’s the difference between Xicato’s Artist Series and Vibrant Series?

Xicato’s Artist and Vibrant series can be used to achieve a more preferred type of light in some applications (where as the Standard Series will provide generally accurate light at 83 CRI). The Artist Series gives a very natural look and shows colors as originally intended, whereas the Vibrant Series makes colors appear richer and more vivid. It also helps bring out textures, as well as makes whites appear sharper and crisper. Lastly, Xicato LEDs have some of the industry’s highest colour consistency, based on their cold-corrected phosphor technology.

3. What’s the difference between CRI and GAI?

Color Rendering Index (CRI) is the measure of color consistency and it represents an average of how at least 8 color swatches are rendered. Gamut Area Index (GAI) is the measure of dominance of certain colors, based on plotted chromacity values of those color swatches.

While this has been the way to describe light characteristics for some time, the industry standard is shifting towards a new metric called TM-30-15. This takes color rendering fidelity and color gamut into account and provides a framework for interpreting chroma and hue shift in light sources. Xicato has been working closely with this metric, allowing us to supply high quality and accuracy when it comes to lighting.

4. What if I change my mind about the reflectors and optics after installation?

In order to adapt to changing lighting requirements, all LED heads have been designed to swap out reflectors without the use of any tools. We also offer IES and LDT files for lighting designers to plan out distribution of light.

5. How has the installation process been simplified for GORO?

Based on feedback from customers and knowledge in the field, we’ve designed GORO to be easy to install in these ways:

  • Organization friendly packaging: all products and components are shipping together in individual boxes, and labelled in “types” (especially in the case an order has a large variety of lumen packages, colour temperatures and more).
  • All downlights can be removed and installed into the fixtures without any tools. The gimbal pins were designed to snap into place but to also be removed for maintenance and ease of installation.
  • For pendent fixtures, stainless steel, aircraft cable is included, and these are adjustable, allowing customizable heights.
  • For recessed housing, trade size conduit knockouts allow for an easy and safe installation.
  • Secondly for recessed housing, butterfly brackets are pre-installed and ready for mounting into ceiling structures.
  • Lastly for recessed housing, industry leading Trim-Tex vinyl drywall bead is supplied with trim-less fixtures.

6. What happens if the driver fails?

We use EldoLED power supplies for their quality and reliability, although if driver failure occurs in the lifetime of the product, it’s service-able on site and there is no need to uninstall the fixture. We’ve designed our fixtures to have room-side, accessible power supplies for any maintenance or reprogramming purposes.

7. What if the building we’re installing in supplies only 347VAC?

With this type of voltage, we can supply transformers for all the fixtures to operate under normal conditions.
